I see people complaining on Twitter how boring it is at their relatives’ homes when their family goes visiting.
Perhaps if you stop being so antisocial, sitting in that corner tweeting, and actually open up and catch up with the people who you call your ‘relatives’ (who you probably only see once a year), you wouldn’t be so bored.
Also, why are we always expecting to be entertained? It’s family, not a goddamned video game.
It’s common to hear people say, “These people are no fun.” or “There’s nothing to talk about.”
Maybe it hasn’t occurred to you yet, but they are probably thinking the same thing. Be proactive. Be the fun, spontaneous one that your cousins look forward to meeting. Be the one to strike an interesting conversation or share a joke. Be the one to put a smile on the elders’ faces.
Never take kinship for granted.
